Shwedagon Paya, Yangon, Myanmar
A series of images from Myanmar when I was commissioned to shoot Buddhist temples for the book The Golden Lands: Architecture of the Buddhist World, published in 2014. I traveled with the author, Vikram Lall. The temples brief was very specific and we didn’t have much time in Myanmar. I did what I could as we traveled between locations to shoot as many extra images as possible, knowing that people and street photography were most likely not going to make it into the book. We were lucky enough to experience an annular eclipse one day over Bagan, quite amazing.
At the end of each day our fixer, Khaine Lay, would take me to a ‘beer station’ – a down-to-earth watering hole, open to the street. If I ever open a bar it’s going to be called: Beer Station.
