'Unforgettable Islands' - front cover
In 2006, three years after we photographed Unforgettable Places To See Before You Die for BBC Books, Steve Davey and I were asked to do Unforgettable Islands To Escape To Before You Die, the fourth book in the series. Unforgettable Places, the first book, was selling better than anyone had expected so the BBC Books editorial team, happy that we knew what to do, let Steve and I make the list of 40 islands by ourselves. The chance to make a second bucket list of places from anywhere in the world was like getting hit by lightning twice – it just never happens but there we were again.
I shot 14 of the 40 islands (in no order): Isle of Skye, Scotland; Newfoundland; Tierra del Fuego, Argentina; Channel Islands, California, USA; Stockholm and its archipelago, Sweden; Amorgos, Greece; The Florida Keys, USA; Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA; Palawan, Philippines; St. Lucia, Windward Islands; Sicily, Italy; Big Island, Hawaii, USA; Eleuthera, The Bahamas. Steve and I traveled together to shoot Mont Saint-Michel, France and Sark, Channel Islands, English Channel.
