Reading her sister's diary in her sister's bedroom
This series was a long-term project for The Diana, Princess
of Wales Memorial Fund documenting the work of the
Child Bereavement Charity, a partner organization. I was
introduced to two families and one individual who had
benefitted from CBC support in managing the death of
a loved one.
Working out how to make images that would portray the
importance of CBC’s work was a challenge. I spent a lot
of time getting to know the people and their stories
before doing any photography. We decided to depict the
everyday situations in which these people most feel the
death of their family member and are reminded strongly
of that child’s life – reading from the child’s diary, riding
alone on the train to work, at school with a friend who
has also lost a sibling or spending time at the grave.
